I'm honoured to have been part of a project with Orangutan Foundation International Australia and a team of international veterinarians to save a sun bear in Borneo.
The Operation Sun Bear Borneo project tells the story of a sun bear taken from the forest as a cub and sold as a caged “pet”.
Fed an incorrect diet that led to poor bone development, Hitam was in constant pain and discomfort for almost all of her six years of life.
This was a world-first procedure. I surgically enlarged her pelvic cavity with a custom-made pelvic implant to relieve her daily pain.
